Coming together for Gaza <3

During times of intense sadness, it can be easy to give into despair. We wanted to put our energy into something productive for folx in need.

Jay and Sara Eve have been working on some projects to raise funds for folx in Gaza. Together they have been able to raise over $1000 and counting!

Jay participated in a Gaza Benefit show hosted by Spirit in Lawrenceville, Pittsburgh. There were performances by Glamphibians, Phat Man Dee, May Day Marching Band as well as a Dance Party with DJ Ron Mist. It was a truly touching evening full of love and fundraising. Jay has coninued to offer these designs far outside the event date <3

Sara Eve created a print set inspired by Gaza’s rich history. The 8.5 x 11” giclee watercolor paper prints were locally printed in PGH. Donations are $20-60 sliding scale. We have happily covered the shipping and printing costs in order to donate 100% to an organization called pal.gaza14 on instagram. This group is recieving funds directly to source food to disperse immediately.

We have been touched by the effort and support these actions have received. Love yinz <3

✨💗Shop Update Tour💗✨ 2023 saw a lot of long term struggles and projects come thru. For years my family, friends, coworkers and I have been working hard to show this previously unoccupied building as much love as we could pour into it.

The shop turns 8 years old this year. I have been reflecting a lot on the amazing people who have come here showing love, thoughtfulness, insight and support. Without yinz, PMA would not have made it thru the challenging times.

Ink for Impact

17 Tattooers from all across Pittsburgh came together for PAAR

Thank you so much to Ink for Impact, Spirit, Fellow Tattooers, Survivors, Allies and Clients for a wiiild and amazing day yesterday when 17 tattooers came together to raise energy and money for Pittsburgh Action Against Rape❤️‍🩹

As a survivor myself, seeing the support and energy brought by all was moving✨ reconnecting with amazing tattooers from across the city was also inspiring 🥹 hopefully this can become a yearly tradition!

Headtriiip Glass comes to PMA

We are so honored to host Borosilicate glass artist, Andrew Federoff at our shop. His work is full of color and exciting patterns! Made onsite, by hand we are so excited for Andy and all the hard work he has put into his opening.

Here’s what he had to say about it;

“What a weekend! Never did I think I would actually get to this point! I officially launched my glass business!

I really want to say thank you to everyone who showed up for me, not just for the launch, but all the other days too. Thank you to my beautiful wife Sara Eve for always believing in me and for being a huge inspiration. You never once doubted me or let me quit when things got rough. I’m eternally grateful and I love you forever. Thanks to my friends, family, an coworkers who showed up, and for believing in my dream and what I wanted to do. Yinz are literally the reason I am able to do this. Everyone who supported me at the opening, thank you. I love seeing my art and creations being used and worn. The gratification is unreal.

It has been beyond an honor to work with the talented and smart kiddos making art at Sto-Rox High School. Our shop’s founder, Sara Eve Rivera, has been coordinating, fundraising and working hands on with students up the street from our shop for over a year now. So much hard work and heart has been put into these works of art! <3 These pieces are quite impressive in size and detail scaling all the way up to 8’x8’!

This last month has shown a lot of big wins for our local kiddos. Not only did they have their first piece on display at the Mckees Rocks Library, but they also were invited to come back for a solo exhibit in the upcoming months! (more info to come) Big shout out to the AACOA, African-American Coalition of Arts, for inviting the students to be a part of the Black History Month exhibit in our local library’s art gallery. This mural was a collaboration with a local black student owned and operated business named 1wayout. This influential clothing brand inspired fellow students to celebrate Black history month’s local theme due to it’s founder, Zay Davis, positive message of self growth and investment.

Not only this, but the kiddos artwork has now begun to be hung up on the walls of the school for students and staff to enjoy! We are overjoyed and so grateful to the lovely staff at the Sto-Rox High School for coordinating their efforts to get these murals into the public eye. We are beyond proud of our High School kiddos, their amazing work and their tenacity!

Touchstone "Placement and Design for the Human Body" Course *Posted 01/14/2023

I have been invited to teach a course on “Placement and Design for the Human Body” at Touchstone Center for Crafts.

In this workshop, we will take the drawing skills you have honed in, but examine them from a new perspective. We will study how 3-D forms can inform 2-D designs to enhance movement, shape and design placement on the surface level. This workshop is taught from the perspective of a tattoo artist but may also be helpful for jewelry designers, henna artists, makeup artists, special effects artists, portrait artists, fashion designers, sculptors, ceramicists and more. The aim of this course is to explore how to create compelling designs with human anatomy in mind. By the end of the workshop, participants will decorate a human hand model to take home with them.

T.T.'s Toybox Rec N Tec Mural is complete! *Posted 11/06/2022

We are beyond excited to share our first community mural with yinz!

Thanks to the McKees Rocks Community Development Corporation, T.T.’s Toybox and Sara Eve were able to collaborate on a community art project. The 33 ft wall serves as the entrance to their Rec N Tec program. previously, the entrance was painted solid white. It used to serve as a neighborhood bar.

Owner and operator, Natika had a brilliant idea to decorate the entrance way to The Rec N Tec, welcoming local children to the center as well as adding color and energy to the roadside. The design shows The Rec N Tec logo, happy kids jumping on a trampoline along with colorful flowers and pollinators bussing around.

Sara Eve not only tattoos at PMA Tattoo, but also volunteers and runs the Sto-Rox Afterschool Mural Club. Painting murals around the community is one of the ways Sara Eve raises funds for the mural club. A big thank you to T.T.’s Toybox for supporting the Sto-Rox Mural Club.

The mural has transformed the entryway, making this entrance truly feel vibrant and playful. It is our hope that all the local kiddos enjoy this generous gift and are so grateful to have been a part of it all.

Starting in the New Year, PMA Tattoo will require either a negative covid test within the last 7 days, or covid vaccination card in order to be tattooed at our shop. Yinz have all been informally sharing your vaccination status with us and we appreciate you taking everyone’s safety so seriously already so we figured we would just make it official. So thank yinz so very much <3

PMA Tattoo Safety Protocol: BEGINNING JANUARY 1ST 2022- ALL VISITORS MUST share their vaccination cards or a negative covid test within the last 7 days.

All visitors must wear an appropriate mask. Masks must cover their nose and mouth fully in order to be considered a safe face covering.

Artists and clients can have their temperature (via non contact thermometer) taken upon arrival to the shop. If there is any reason as to why your temperature runs higher than usual, you do not have to disclose your medical information to us, but please let us know ahead of time so that we can accommodate you appropriately.

The shop door will remain locked and clients are allowed into the shop at appointment only. At this point you are permitted to bring up to 2 pals with you.

If you are sick, you MUST reschedule your appointment, or you will be respectfully turned away from your appointment slot. Deposit policies are waved due to illness reschedules, so PLEASE RESCHEDULE if you are experiencing any illness <3

OH WOW, THANK YINZ SO MUCH FOR 5 YEARS IN BUSINESS!!!

We are beyond grateful for 5 years of wild, unpredictable, enriching growth with all yinz!!! Have you from the bottom of our hearts for your support and interest over the years. From key to first tattoo, Sara Eve Rivera opened the original Dormont, PGH location in only 11 days. She had a month to month lease and was not sure what this quick personal work space could turn into with the love and support of community.

Now, 5 years later we have hired a lot of new talented and kind artists. We are collaborating with our community through our free food drive, Sto-Rox mural project, The Stowe-Rocks Business & Neighborhood Association, our local NAACP bidding chapter, community clean ups and more <3 <3 <3

Our next phase/goal is to create a more accessible work place <3 We have worked with the local ordinances and inspections officials to AND ARE NOW APPROVED to build an accessibility ramp installed on the front of our building. Plans are in works to adjust our bathroom space as well! We are currently working to book a contractor to complete the work <3

Thanks to your support we were able to set our roots in a more stable and long term location here in Mckees Rocks. In the community, we have volunteered and made close friendships with our neighbors. We have had opportunities to collaborate and support local businesses and non profits, serve on boards with community efforts, donate time and money back into our community and help jump start local organizing efforts!

We have been working on this for almost a year now and hope to get the green light soon!

We need 100 members to open our own chapter here is Sto-Rox. You do not need to live in McKees Rocks to support this effort either. There are many focus committees that you can join if you feel so inspired to. We are also looking for people who would like to take positions of leadership in the organization. We are also welcoming members who may be strapped for free time who may only be able to take up positions of leadership.

Any support would be helpful to us and members are welcome to be as active as their work/life schedules allow for.

What’s the PMA Crew been up to? Well, over the winter holidays, Sara Eve painted a badass mural at a local smoke shop called Curated Flame! They have awesome glass pieces, rolling papers, and other smoking related goodies! Sara did a traditional panther, and there are also some other killer murals in the space by local artists Lou and Jerome “Chu” Charles!! Check it out below!

Happy 2021, everybody! Phew, we made it out of 2020!! A HUGE thank you to all of our amazing clients, followers, and neighbors for their support! We couldn’t have done it without you. This year, making our shop a comfortable environment for our clients became an even bigger part of our mission, due to the ongoing global pandemic. We changed our safety measures, went appointment only, began locking the front door between clients, and started sanitizing hands and taking temperatures at the front desk upon entry. We also got two Airocide air filters that can kill viruses for both the front and back room!! Through it all, three new artists joined us — Frank, Nick, and Donovan! You can check out their portfolios from the menu bar on our site! We also worked hard on some community outreach this year, artists spoke to schools, donated to BLM, donated holiday gifts, donated artwork to a new minority-owned small business, picked up trash in the neighborhood, and volunteered for community discussions and forums! We’re looking forward to doing even more in 2021!! Check out some of our favorite tattoos from 2020 below :)
